The Fenian cycle is set in the third century of the Christian calendar. These stories are about the Fianna, a group of warriors famous for their bravery and skill in battle. They worked in groups, and a group of six warriors was called a ‘fian’ and this is where they got the title the Fianna. A man could only join the Fianna after he had completed some difficult tests.
