The Ulster Cycle  


The Ulster cycle deals with the tales of the Red Branch Knights who existed in Ireland in the first century of the Christian era. This cycle is mainly about the hero Cuchulainn.

The stories about Cuchulainn are very famous. He had great strength and courage. He was said to have had the ‘Gae Bulga’, the spear of Bulga. Bulga was the God of lightening. This spear was like a javelin.

Anybody who had this spear was strengthened in battle. Cuchulcainn died around 12BC. His death marked the end of dominance of the Red Branch Knights.
