Ayer's Rock is the worlds largest monolith
(single stone). It is 318m in height and has a circumference of 8km (5
miles). It is located in Kata Tjuta National Park in Australia. The original
name of the rock was Uluru. This name was given to it by the Aborigines. Ayer's Rock is approximately 3 1/2 miles beneath the surface. It can take up to 2 hours to climb to the top of the rock and about 3 hours to walk all around it! Depending on the time of day and the atmospheric conditions the rock can change colours from blue to red!!

The Great Barrier Reef is situated off the
north east coast of Australia. It is the largest system of coral reefs and the
largest living structure in the world. It stretches for about 1250 miles along the
coast. Coral reefs are natural breeding grounds for underwater life but the Great Barrier Reef is unique beacuse it is the largest structure made from living organisms on the earth. Coral are living animals that grow into fantastic shapes and sizes. They also have amazing colours and it is the coral that gives the Great Barrier Reef its colourful appearance.
