bullet.gif (1532 bytes)Humans have an endoskeleton. This means that our skeleton is inside our body. Our skeleton is very important. Without it we would not be able to stand and we would fall to the ground like jelly! Our bones are linked together by joints. Every bone in the body has its own name. In the very centre of our bones, there is a spongy substance called bone marrow. Bone marrow is very important to our blood circulation. Fully grown humans have 206 bones in the body and young children have a lot more! The largest bone in the body is called the femur and it makes up one quarter of a person's height. The shortest bone in the body is called the stirrup and it is located in the ear. The stirrup is one quarter of a centimentre in length.
