Manufacturing Australia has a significant motor industry employing more than 70,000 people. Five companies assemble cars, and all are subsidiaries of either Japanese or American companies.

Special Cities Some cities are especially important for certain products. For example, Sydney is noted for the production of transport equipment; Hobart for textiles, clothing and footwear; Shepparton for food and tobacco.
