Many people in Africa live in tribes. Some Africans are Christians or Moslems. But many belong to a tribal religion. All members of a tribe live in the same town or village. They wear the same clothes and eat the same kinds of food. They usually speak the same language. Each tribe is lead by a chief or a council of men. Each tribe makes its own laws. Most of African culture comes from its various tribes. Each tribe worships its ancestors, those people who lived before them. Each tribe has different Gods. Black African music is very important in tribal religions. Tribes write their own songs. There are praying songs, songs for the birth of new members and the death of old ones. Members of the tribe play instruments such as drums. Others dance and sing to the tunes of the songs.
