THE RIVER NILE

The Nile is the longest river in the world.  It flows through northeast Africa for more than 4,000 miles.  The Nile is made up of two shorter rivers, the White Nile and the Blue Nile, which join at Khartoum in Sudan.  The river then runs north across the Sahara Desert and Egypt.  The Nile empties into the Mediterranean Sea.

DID YOU KNOW?
The Blue Nile, originating in Ethiopia, joins the White Nile at Khartoum, Sudan; from this point the Nile runs northwards through Sudan and Egypt and empties into the Mediterranean Sea. As shown here, the Nile provides people and materials with a means of transport.
